Helping You Be Contemporary in a Traditional Way

Passing: Herb Oscar Anderson

Herb Oscar Anderson recently passed away at age 88.

he was one of those radio voices of my youth – on a surface level he was a DJ on WABC and WMCA, in the era in which Top 40 rock and roll and pop ruled.

But HOA was different. he wqa a bridge between the refinement, c;lass and professionaliosm of an older sensibility and the youth orientnted radio DJ’s.

There ws Dan Ingram, Cousin Brucie Ron Lundy and others.

But Mr. Anderson was different. As the New York Times obituary described he “was a throwback in a changing music scene, a fan of the big band sound, not necessarily the rock ā€™nā€™ roll he was playing on a 50,000-watt station that reached well beyond the city limits”.

He also possessed an optimism and lack of cynicism characteristic of those who have followed.

Personally, I listened only for his welcome tune, which I link below. It made my day.
